What is the difference between unique plugs and tunnels?
The main differences between plugs and tunnels are that ear plugs are solid. Unique ear tunnels on the other hand are hollow and are used to emphasise the ear itself. Even if the ear jewellery has a slight opening, it is classed as an ear tunnel.
Our website stocks a mixture of both, from unique ear gauges, to tunnels that come in different materials, including silicone, wood, acrylic and more. We are dedicated to creating unique plugs and tunnels that fit the personality and style of our customers.
What types of unique plugs and tunnels are there?
Unique ear gauges can come in no flare, single flare, double flare and even a screw fit. Each of these have individual physical features that make them different.
No Flare
When it comes to unique plugs and tunnels, flare is mainly used to detail the edge. A no flare tunnel or plug is smooth and straight, This design makes them good for earlobes that are not fully healed in the ear stretched process.
Single flare plugs and tunnels have one edge. The flared edge faces the front, while the smooth edge is at the back of the earlobe. With single flared plugs, an O-ring is placed on the inner part to keep the unique ear gauge in place. As the flared portion doesn’t pass through the lobe, the single flare plug or tunnel is ideal for recovering earlobes.
Double Flared
Unlike a single flared plug, a double flared has two edges which do not need an O-ring to hold them in place. The double flared plugs are the most common choice out of the options. These unique ear gauges are pushed through your earlobe and need to be fully healed to prevent overstretching.
Saddle-fit plugs are also classed as a double flare, but have smoother edges. These are easier to insert.
Screw Fit
Screw fit unique plugs and tunnels are a great option for those that want the appearance of double flare without needing fully healed earlobes. These are safer as they come in to separate parts; one single flare that sits in the earlobe and the second part which is screwed onto the back. This therefore minimises flexing and stretching your earlobes.
